1. Preperation is everything. Make sure you put enough time into prepping yourself, your horse and your environment so you can feel confident when you arrive at the show or competition.
2. Focus on yourself, not others. The easiest way to become distracted – which can affect your confidence at a horse show or competition is when you start watching others. Focus on you and your horse, not what is going on around you.
3. Be kind to yourself. We are all guilty of being our harshest critics. On competition day, set yourself realistic goals and do not beat yourself up if things go wrong. Focus on what you can control rather than what is outside of your gift.
4. Visualise your achievement. The rosette, the end flag, the bow to signal the end of your test – whatever success looks like to you, visualise it and this will help you to focus and feel confident.
